Qassia Mission
|

The objective of this site is to allow website owners and webmasters to efficiently
promote their web sites. Those promoting their websites on Qassia are rewarded with traffic and exposure for their
websites in our web directory. The ultimate goal of this site is to obviate the need for link exchanges
or submissions to web directories during the SEO (search engine optimization) process, and to instead focus
website promotion activity on the development of original content.

Rogue Screeners
Several days ago we finally got round to installing a module which conducts an analyses of screening behavior, based on a proprietary model. If our algorithm detects suspicious screening activity, the user is prevented from screening any more intel, though he/she may continue to add intel. So far, five users have been banned from screening. We have received requests for explanations from some of the affected users about why their screening privileges have been suspended. Unfortunately we are not able to reveal how our system works, but, so far, in all cases a manual check by Qassia staff confirmed the suspension as correct.

Search Back Up
Search functionality has been restored. We are still investigating the issue. We will also be improving search handling and speeding up the time it takes to compile the search index.

Sticker Checker Tool
Most of you will know that we have a Sticker Mania Promo ongoing at this time. Basically the way this works is, we crawl your site, and if a link to ours is found, you get a fistful of credit. In response to complaints from Frank Feather ~ Futurist and several other users, we improved our crawler, which is now at version 2.0. Amongst other things, it is no longer case sensitive. Additionally, pursuant to another suggestion from Giles Vineu, we also released a tool, so that you can check whether the new version of our crawler can find the sticker on your site. Look for Sticker Checker on your Sticker Mania Promo page. The Sticker Checker will tell you if the sticker is found or not, and which errors were encountered, if any. Note that our crawler will not follow forwarded pages to their final destinations.

New! Intel Submission Limits
As you know, intel is screened before being published, and only one of your intel will appear for screening. If you submit multiple intel, then your intel will be screened one at a time, and the unscreened intel will remain in the screening queue. Possibly shooting ourselves in the foot, we have introduced limits on how many intel you can have in the screening queue at the same time. If your intel is third-party content (such as PLR articles), you can have only one in the screening queue. If your intel was authored by you but is being republished after having been published on your own blog or site, you can have five in the queue. But if your intel is original and previously unpublished content, you can still have unlimited items in the queue. We have introduced this limitation because some users were submitting massive numbers of third party content and then logging off. With a vast number of intel to deal during the next online session, it is unlikely that remarks left during screening will be taken into consideration. Material already in the queue is not affected. And of course, you can still submit unlimited intel, of any classification (original, republished, or third-party). You just have to be online to do it from now on.

Introducing Channels
We have added a new little section to the form for adding intel to our index, where we are experimentally asking contributors to select a channel. The purpose of the channel selection is to give us a rough idea what your intel is about. At this time we have only 12 channels, in two categories. Currently the channel data is being used for no other purpose other than gathering statistics, which will help us when making strategic decisions on how to improve Qassia.
